(Don't forget to sign up for the
MR Master's Series, Hands on LX)
The Probe2000 Option offers Single and Multiple Voxel Hydrogen Spectroscopy with Automated Water Suppression and Gradient Shimming. Spectroscopy results can be displayed as Individual Voxel Spectra or as Color Metabolite Maps.
T1 Flair T2 Flair
A thirty five year old presents for evaluation and follow up after resection of a glioma. Contrast enhanced FLAIR T1 study (left) shows no blood-brain barrier breakdown. The T2 FLAIR study (right) reveals increased signal consistent with gliosis. Is there mass effect?
NAA maps NAA maps
Parametric 2D MR spectroscopic images (NAA maps) indicate a reduction of N-actetyl aspartate (a neuronal marker) associated with the region of abnormal T2 signal.
Choline / NAA maps
Parametric 2D MR spectroscopic images (maps of the ratio of the concentration of choline to NAA) reveal a suspicious level of choline associated with the region of abnormal T2 signal. The findings are diagnostic of the presence of residual tumor.
